How Highway secures cross-chain messaging

Deterministic, Verifiable, Decentralized

Highway replaces traditional bridging with a BFT committee-based validation system. Every message is verified by a deterministically selected committee of 128 relayers, requiring 86 signatures for consensus.

BLS Threshold Signatures

Compact, aggregatable cryptographic proofs. One node = one signature, no delegation of signing power.

Optimistic Collection Window

Extends signature collection 3 seconds past threshold, enabling automatic fraud detection without oracles.

Committee Randomness

Registry-epoch-bound seed using drand League of Entropy for unpredictable, verifiable committee selection.

Finality-Aware Execution

Native support for different consensus models — optimistic, deterministic, economic, and probabilistic finality.

Nebula VPN Mesh

Private validator network makes relay nodes invisible to outside attackers, eliminating external DoS vectors.

Dual-Phase Validation

Source validation (job claiming) + execution validation (delivery confirmation). Two independent verification stages.

HOW IT WORKS

From source chain to destination in four steps

Emit

User initiates a cross-chain action. The Entry Contract on the source chain emits a standardized event.

Validate

A committee of 128 relayers is selected. 86 signatures are required to validate the message.

Coordinate

Mosaic Chain verifies committee signatures, enforces relay rules, and coordinates message delivery.

Execute

The Executor Contract on the destination chain validates and executes the operation atomically.
